Garth George on the rampage again
I find it ironic - and slightly disturbing that the Bay of Plenty Times resident oligarch (I mean columnist) GarthGeorge has the affront to write an article on the subject of freedom, when Garth is (almost) the biggest control freak to write a regular column in the BOP Times.
Garth is a firm believer in the use of force, and is constantly banging on about making this that or the other thing compulsory - forcing others to comply with his version of Freedom.
I liken Garth to that other misunderstood pin up boy for freedom - Che Guevara.
Not that Garth is a mass murderer like Che, but, like Che, Garth wants the freedom to oppress others (by the use of force) to comply with his idea of freedom.
It just goes to show how screwed up society is when we cannot comprehend the meaning of such a simple word. He must have majored at the government school of spin to enable him to have such a twisted interpretation of the word.
Governments are constantly guilty of such practice - ie TAX= theft, or unbundling the loop = privatising a companies private assets - to name a couple.
For the benefit of Garth (and those of you who are also confused on the meaning of the word) I state the following:
The basic concept of freedom is that if you wish to be free, then you must allow others the same courtesy, or in the words of Abraham Lincoln: Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
Ayn Rand said:
The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities (or freedom.)
And finally words of wisdom from Ronald Reagan:
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We don't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.
Do us a favour George - stick to your knitting, and leave freedom to those who know what it really means, and who care for it enough to protect it from those who wish to destroy it.
